The detail behind those six statements.

These are the full terms. They are short by the standards of the genre, because a page nobody finishes protects nobody.

Who these terms are with

Lange Consulting Group Pty Ltd.

These terms govern your use of simonlange.com.au, including the assessments published here, the writing, and everything else on the site. They are an agreement between you and Lange Consulting Group Pty Ltd (ABN 85 607 114 134), Sydney, Australia. Throughout, “I”, “me” and “we” mean that company and anyone working under its direction.

Where these terms say an assessment, they mean any of the following:

  • the Digital Health Maturity Snapshot — free, public, and open to anyone
  • the Digital Health Maturity Assessment — the fuller instrument, used with clients. Where it is offered through this site, these terms apply to it. Where I deliver it as part of paid work, the written engagement prevails (see Liability).

If I publish another, it is added to this list before it goes live.

Using the site means accepting these terms. If you don't accept them, the remedy is simple and costs you nothing: don't use the site.

These terms cover the public website. Any account-based service — a client portal, a login, anything that stores your work between visits — will come with its own terms, presented to you before you sign up rather than folded quietly into this page.

What you can do with it

Use it in your practice, as much as you want.

You may read this site, complete any assessment that is open to you as often as you like, download your reports, and use what you learn to run and improve your own practice. You may share your report with anyone you choose, as set out under Your report below. You may quote short passages from the writing with attribution and a link.

Reading the site, taking the Snapshot and using what you learn needs no permission, no account and no payment.

The assessment

What it is, and what it is not.

Each assessment on this site is a structured self-assessment. You answer for your own practice against a defined set of criteria, and the tool turns those answers into a domain-level and composite maturity picture. It is offered for educational and informational purposes only, and is not professional advice.

It is not an audit. Nothing you enter is checked, verified, sampled or evidenced by me or by anyone else. There is no inspection, no site visit and no review of documents. A practice that scores itself generously will receive a generous score, and the tool has no way of knowing.

It is not an accreditation decision. Where the framework references accreditation standards, it does so to help you organise your own thinking and evidence. It does not determine, predict or guarantee any accreditation outcome. Accreditation decisions are made by accrediting bodies against their own standards and their own processes, and this assessment has no standing in them. If you use your report as an input to an accreditation submission, the responsibility for what you submit remains entirely yours.

It is not a compliance certificate. A high score is not evidence that you comply with any law, standard, regulation or contractual obligation. It reflects how you answered a set of questions on a given day.

Results are a snapshot. They describe your practice at the moment you completed it. Systems change, staff change, and a score from six months ago describes a practice that may no longer exist.

Used for what it is — a way to see your practice whole, find the gaps, and decide what to do next — it is genuinely useful. Used as a substitute for verification, it isn't.

Your report

It is prepared for you, and for you to use.

A report produced by any assessment on this site is prepared for the practice that completed it, on the basis of the answers that practice supplied, and for that practice's own use. I have not checked those answers.

Share it as widely as is useful to you — with your team, your advisers, your insurer, your accreditation surveyor, anyone you choose. Sharing it transfers no right in the framework itself, and it does not turn a self-assessment into an independent one.

A report is a self-assessment. It is not an audit opinion, a certification or an independent verification. Neither you nor anyone you share it with may present it as one, or rely on it as evidence that any standard, obligation or accreditation requirement has been met.

The report is for the practice that completed it, to use in its own planning and discussions. I owe no duty of care to anyone who receives a copy of a report from you. My responsibility to you is limited as set out under Liability below.

Where you need an independent assessment — for accreditation, for a purchaser, for an insurer, for a regulator — engage one. A self-assessment is a different instrument, built for a different purpose, and it is at its most useful when nobody is asked to mistake it for the other thing.

Advice

Reading this site does not make me your adviser.

Everything published here — the assessment, the notes, the book material, the pages describing how I work — is general information. The framework is written without knowledge of your practice, your systems, your obligations, your contracts or your circumstances, and a report reflects only the answers you gave. Neither can account for anything you did not tell it.

It is not legal, clinical, financial, regulatory or professional advice, and no consultant-client relationship is created by you reading this site, completing the assessment, receiving a report, or emailing me a question. That relationship begins when we have talked about your situation and put a written engagement in place, and not before.

Before you act on anything here in a way that carries real consequence, take advice that is about you.

Intellectual property

The framework stays mine. Your use of it is broad.

The assessment framework — its domains, its criteria, its best-practice statements, its maturity scale, its scoring model and its action library, in every instrument built on it — along with the writing, the book material, the page copy, the design and the code of this site, are my intellectual property or used by me under licence. Publishing part of the framework openly is a deliberate choice, not a waiver.

You may: use the framework and your results within your own practice or organisation, including internal training and internal documentation; share your reports with anyone you choose; quote short passages with attribution.

You may not: reproduce the framework or substantial parts of it in your own product, template, tool or publication; use it to deliver paid assessment, audit or advisory services to third parties; sell, sublicense or distribute it; remove attribution; or systematically scrape, bulk-extract or harvest this site's content, including for the purpose of training commercial machine-learning systems.

Sharing your own completed report with an adviser, an insurer, an accreditation surveyor or anyone else you choose needs no permission from me. That permission covers your report — it does not extend to the framework, its criteria, its best-practice statements, its scoring or its action library, and it gives the recipient no right to reuse any of them.

If you want to use the framework in a way this doesn't cover — a college, a network, a group of practices, a training program — ask me. The answer is often yes, and it is a short conversation.

What you send

Two things I ask of you.

Answer for a practice you're entitled to answer for. When you complete an assessment or enter a practice name, you confirm you are authorised to describe that practice and that what you enter is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

Never enter patient information. Nothing on this site asks for it, nothing here needs it, and nothing here is built to receive it. Do not put patient names, clinical details, health identifiers or any other patient information into any field, form or email on this site. If you do so accidentally, tell me and I will delete it.

Acceptable use

The short list of things not to do.

  • Don't interfere with the site, its security, or its availability for anyone else.
  • Don't attempt to bypass the security check on the assessment, or submit through it by automated means.
  • Don't use the report service to send mail to anyone other than yourself.
  • Don't attempt to gain access to systems, accounts or data you are not entitled to.
  • Don't use the site for anything unlawful, or in a way that would damage anyone else.

These are here because the report service sends email on request, and a service like that has to be protected from being turned against people. The security check on the assessment exists for exactly that reason.

Availability

The free tools are offered as they stand.

I intend the site and the assessments to be available and working, and I look after them accordingly. I don't guarantee uninterrupted availability, freedom from every error, or that the framework will remain unchanged. I may update, improve, restructure or withdraw any part of the site, including any assessment, without notice.

If a report matters to you, keep your own copy. The site is not a record-keeping system and does not keep your past results available for you to return to.

Links to other places

Where this site links elsewhere — a booking calendar, a bookseller, a standard, a reference — those destinations are run by other people under their own terms and their own privacy practices. A link is a pointer, not an endorsement, and not a warranty about what you'll find there.

Liability

Where responsibility sits, honestly stated.

Your rights under Australian law come first. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. If a consumer guarantee applies to something I supply you, it applies, whatever else this page says. Where liability for a failure to comply with a consumer guarantee can lawfully be limited, mine is limited, at my option, to supplying the relevant service again or paying the reasonable cost of having it supplied again.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law permits: this site and the assessments are provided as they stand; decisions you make on the basis of a self-assessment score are yours; and I am not liable for loss arising from your use of the site or the free assessments, or from information you entered inaccurately.

None of this applies to paid consulting or advisory work, including an assessment I deliver to you as part of it. That work is governed by the written engagement we sign, which sets out its own scope, obligations and liability position, and which prevails over this page for anything within it.

Housekeeping

Changes, law, and how to reach me.

I may update these terms. The effective date and version number at the top of this page tell you which edition you are reading, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the current version. Substantive changes will be dated rather than slipped in.

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you and I submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, that part is severed and the rest continues to apply.

How your information is handled is a separate question, answered on the privacy page. The third-party applications and services used to operate this site are listed on the service providers page, which is maintained separately and kept current.
